Rocks And Rivers – Meeting Life, Over And Over Again

Happy new year, 2023! We have ventured into yet another year. Life charges ahead. Seasons will change, life will change, new will come, and old will go. Exciting, new things, await us, and hope moves us forward. Then life will come and jar some of the expectations, as it so often does. But then it will bring other unexpected gifts, that now are out of our sight. Things will go, and things will come. Life never fails to flow. Through our mere existence, we are learning to meet life, over and over again.

The landscape in me, that is stones and rocks, keeps tensioning stubbornly, determined to preserve life. It is not keen at all on giving in to loss. Dear stones, you passionate protectors, preservers of bones and time, how strong you are. Strong, tense, and resilient, and yet your heart so fainting to touch. I’m grateful to you, form. I’m grateful to you, holding. And yet I want to be touched. Let me be touched. Let me touch you. Let life touch us.

The Relationship Between Rocks and Rivers

The rivers flow through rocky mountains. Nature, the best landscape architect, must know what it’s doing. There is an intrinsic and wondrous relationship between rocks and rivers. Between perseverance and giving in. Between density and flow. Between the Moon and Saturn. Between Capricorn and Cancer. Horns, stones, hooves, oysters, flesh, feathers, waters, drizzles, foams, gases, structures, stories, and intents, all succumb to life. To life with its unrelenting relationship to disintegration.

Disintegration can hurt. Seasons and times can hurt. But rest assured, pain, tenderness, and hope can share their dwelling with one another.

All the best to you, dear ones,

May all kinds of experiences keep softening your hearts.
